Glass Bead Blasting

what is GLASS BEAD BLASTING

Glass bead blasting is a metal cleaning process that creates a clean, uniform matte texture. Glass bead blasting is effective for performing deburring, cleaning, surface preparation, texturizing and finishing. Metal surfaces often need to be cleaned, textured, or polished for aesthetic and functional purposes. In order to keep the surfaces free from iron contamination of steel blasting media while achieving a smooth, satin finish, glass bead blasting becomes a desirable metal surface preparation technique. Bead blasting is used to remove paint and rust from metal, wood, plastic, and fiberglass. This technique is economical, reliable and it does not damage metal parts or their surfaces during the cleaning process.

uses of GLASS BEAD BLASTING in the industry

Industry professionals commonly use glass bead blasting for cleaning, blending, deburring, honing, peening, polishing, and other finishing treatments. Compared to other abrasive blasting methods, it is much gentler, making it suitable for more delicate materials and components.

Common Applications

  • Cleaning (perfect for surface preparation without changing tolerances, or imparting ferrous contaminants)
  • Finishing (varying sizes create a wide range of unique surface finishes and blending of machining marks)
  • Peening (reduces the tensile stress in metal components, increasing fatigue limits)
  • Deburring (successful removal of burrs without any part damage resulting in a smooth peened surface)

Benefits of GLASS bEAD bLASTING

  • Smooth finish. As glass bead blasting uses rounded media, it creates a smooth and bright surface finish rather than the matte surface finish characteristic of abrasive blasting methods that use angular media.
  • Environmentally friendly. Glass beading helps lower material utilization and waste generation.
  • Suitability for delicate materials. Since glass beads are not as aggressive as sheet shot and other abrasive media, they are better suited for softer materials or parts with delicate or thin-walled designs.
